We almost bought a $1.3M house — here’s why we walked away

Hey fam,

Last month, I paid off my parents house — in full. Actually, I technically bought it from them as a cash purchase.

On top of achieving this LIFELONG GOAL, I am officially 100% debt-free.

No mortgage (I own my house in Surf City🏡).
No car payment (I own 2 cars: a 1995 4x4 Toyota Van 🏄🏻‍♀️, & a 2024 Porsche Macan Electric 💁🏻‍♀️).
No student loans (previously owed: $88k 😭).

And now, no mortgage for my parents 🙌🏽.

If you don’t know — I grew up…not-so-wealthy (understatement). Money was ALWAYS a stress in our house.

My parents were never great a making or managing money, so it took me a while to learn for myself how to best make and hold money.

FUN FACTS:
🤦🏻‍♀️ I didn’t have a credit card until I was 26 because my parents thought credit was the devil.
🤦🏻‍♀️ Despite making 6 figures since my mid-twenties, I rarely had more than $10k in savings.
🤦🏻‍♀️ When I quit Microsoft, I cashed out my 401k just to feel “safe”.

If you know anything about finances, you know those are… questionable decisions.

But the biggest one was this: I always believed more money was the solution to all of my problems.

That belief almost led me back into the same cycle last week: My fiancé and I were set to close on a $1.3M intracoastal home & we backed out at the last minute.

I realized I was about to re-create the exact pattern I’ve been walking for 35 years: chasing more as if “more” was safety.

Sometimes when we finally get to the top of the mountain, we throw ourselves halfway back down just to climb again. Different side, same struggle.

Hell, sometimes we get so close to the top over & over, only to keep rerouting ourselves up a different route — always close to enjoying the view, but never quite there.

The truth is that it’s uncomfortable AF to sit in the accomplishment of our goals — to arrive and witness ourselves arriving, and to stay long enough to really reap and soak in the benefits we strove so hard for.

A dear client and friend said it the best: we stay in the struggle because it’s what our nervous system knows.

& That’s exactly what this week’s podcast episode is about — breaking the cycle of struggle, even when everything looks like success on the outside.

After you listen, I’ve love hear to from you: what patterns have you found yourself repeating, over and over, even when you know better?

As always, thank you for being here. It means the world.
