Yesterday, I wrote about what The Hierophant in tarot means for your business. Today, I want to talk about what The Hierophant in tarot means for your life-work and career.
The Hierophant shows up when we are being reminded that we are our best and greatest teacher. It calls on us to question the institutions, systems and teachings that have influenced us. And, it calls on us to examine the beliefs that we are holding because of those very institutions, systems and teachings that have influenced us.
One example might be, if you grew up very strictly religious, what of those beliefs are you holding? What of those beliefs have shaped and continue to shape you today? What of those beliefs are still driving or steering the car that is your life and work and career? Are those beliefs serving you? Is it time to make some edits?
Another example includes the corporate worlds and systems that we might have “grown up” in as well. Personally, the formative years of my career were shaped by working across small-medium businesses (think health technology), start ups and tech giants (think Microsoft and Crowdstrike). There is no doubt that spending my twenties and early thirties in these environments shaped much of how I think and relate to the workplace, career growth and trajectory, corporate culture and thus the very work I lead through my businesses, The Corporate Psychic and Essential Teams. Now, I coach senior leaders and executives. I lead team building and people development. And I interact with the business world in such a way that I’ve had to question everything. I continually have to reckon with the truth of the systems and my own inner truths.
In fact, it’s this tension, between wisdom and power, between systems and self that The Hierophant calls us into. So what does this mean for your work and career?
Themes: Authority, Systems, Power, Institutions, Teachings, Wisdom, Truth, Self-Trust
Invitations:
You may be being invited into a reckoning with your work, with the systems that have “raised” you, with the institutions that are currently holding you. Where is the wisdom, where is the truth? What beliefs are driving you, and who primarily benefits from your thinking this way? And, are you actually contributing to the change that you’d like to see in your career, work and working world?
It’s time for you to become the expert. This absolutely does not invite you into taking more trainings, classes, courses, mentorships, etc. This is about stepping into the role of expert, leader, authority because you are already ready. You already have everything you need (within you).
You are the teacher. Have you ever considered this before? This moment in your career is opening a space for you to step into the role of teacher (for yourself, for others) or authority. Which means, it’s time to stop looking to others for answers and to start allowing what you know (which is much more than you think) to steer the ship.
The Heirophant in tarot asks us to develop the wisdom within ourselves to know when to trust ourselves, when to learn from others, and when to challenge the systems that taught us (and others) to begin with.
When you see The Heirophant in a reading, you are likely entering a season or a chapter where what you believe becomes just as important (if not more) as what you do, how you work or how you serve.
This is a moment where your career will not grow by following the status quo, by doing more of the same, or by playing by the rules that everyone else may be playing. It’s a moment where your growth is going to come from standing on and standing up for something that matters — to connect meaning and truth to whatever it is that you do for a living.
