the sun in work, career, life and business ✨
what is standing between you and your natural experience of joy?
themes: joy, liberation, coming out, authenticity, vitality, intensity, innocence, new light, visibility, warmth, creativity, freedom, truth, self-expression, playfulness, clarity, passing of the day/time, emergence
how this plays out:
you feel ready to transition into a new role or identity (i.e. from engineer to manager, from IC to leader, from corporate brand to your own business, from behind the scenes to front and center, etc.)
you’re ready for people to experience a more authentic version of you — one that has been evolving in the background. maybe this a version of you who actually has and enforces boundaries (i.e. you start actually logging off at 5). maybe this your inner artist emerging.
you’re done being the quiet, responsible, accommodating, person in your office, business, friend group or relationship
your ambitions have changed. your vision of success has changed. your dreams and goals have changed. and now the external is ready to match the internal — and so are you.
the invitation:
show up in your fullness. let the world experience you differently. stop managing what others may or may not be perceiving.
the sun invites you to consider what becomes possible when you stop hiding yourself (or pieces of yourself) from the world. it invites you to consider what becomes possible when you stop performing, or contorting yourself to meet expectations. the sun invites you to stop negotiating with the parts of yourself that want to shine — the parts that really just want to exist, to create, to play, to love, to be seen.
it asks you, who were you before you learned to be ashamed of who you are? and, what if you didn’t need to become anything more than what you already are? (PSA: you didn’t. and you still don’t. who you are is perfect as is.)
additionally, the sun in tarot is not just about pursuing happiness. it’s about allowing your natural experience of joy to exist, and tapping into that natural joy by allowing yourself to be AND be seen, being.
joy is not something that we have to earn. it’s part of who we are. and our ability to experience it is deeply connected with our ability to simply BE ourselves, fully, whoever that is, in each moment.
joy is much less accessible when we are acting out our idealized self (who we think we need to be, who we think we should be, even who we think we want to be). and while we may feel happy being seen as the idealized version of us, we get to experience joy when we are seen as the real us.
the sun in tarot invites us to be the real us, to be seen as the real us, and to experience our inherent joy through this.
it’s about uninhibited life expression.
which, isn’t always pretty or glamorous or.. ideal.
the sun in relation to the major arcana:
because, remember, the sun is in the third line of the major arcana. it’s a pretty mature archetype. therefore, the sun has seen some shit. the sun has experienced suffering, grief, loss, surrender and the dismantling of illusions. AND the sun is pure, it’s shining, it’s radiant, vibrant, alive, life-giving and visible. despite it all, the sun teaches us that we always have access to these parts within us, and that we can experience joy simply by being alive — doing whatever we naturally do.
mg anecdote:
a few years ago, I bought an oceanfront beach house. it was an old house. it needed a lot of work. it was VERY close to the ocean and it felt risky. I had no idea if the next storm season would take it away (in fact, I didn’t know at the time that the last storm season took one of the bedrooms). so when I bought it, despite being so overly excited and happy, I was very afraid and anxious. specifically, I was afraid that I would lose everything.
one day, while living in that beach house, I went for a run on the beach. the beach was wide and empty and beautiful. about a mile so or into the run, I’m taking it all in, feeling so free and happy and I just start laughing. I started laughing so hard that I had to stop running. and as I looked around, I realized and remembered thinking
if I lost everything, I still have this.
and by ‘this’, I meant freedom. and something deep inside of me knew that no matter what happened, I would be okay. I would always have me. I would always have access to laughter and joy and freedom and authentic being.
even though it wasn’t a moment of coming out into the world anew, it feels very much like the sun as I read it today.
the sun asks us to step into the world with total trust that we are not only equipped for whatever comes our way, but that we are free to experience the unraveling of our lives with presence and joy (and wonder and ease). and no matter what, we are invited to shine.
may you step into the world today and shine ✨.
